Boat Trip to the Berlengas? Get Ready for Some Excitement!

April 16, 2025

If you’re planning a visit to Berlengas, it’s natural to wonder: ‘What will the boat trip be like?’ The truth is, the adventure begins long before you set foot on the island β€” it starts the moment you board.

Boats depart from the Peniche marina, and as soon as you round Cabo Carvoeiro, you’re out in open sea. From there, everything depends on the Atlantic’s mood. Some days, the crossing is so calm it feels like a relaxing cruise. On others, the rough sea turns the ride into a kind of natural roller coaster, full of excitement.

Berlenga Tours Tip: Send us a message before departure to check sea conditions. It costs nothing and helps you be better prepared β€” whether it’s with the right clothing or simply greater peace of mind.

Seasick? Only for the most sensitive (and mostly on the big boats!)
On big, slow boats β€” especially on rough sea days β€” seasickness can happen. But with our fast boat, the journey takes just 25 minutes, and we have a very low rate of seasickness (only about two people per season!). And if it does happen, we’ll refund your trip.

Getting wet? It can happen.
Our boat is open and closer to the sea, which brings an extra dose of adrenaline β€” and, occasionally, a few splashes. So if we offer you a raincoat, don’t hesitate to take it! If you prefer a drier experience, covered boats are more suitable, though they miss out on part of the thrill.

Remember: the crossing is part of the magic. And with calm seas, clear skies, and the island appearing on the horizon, it’s a moment you’ll remember forever.
